SNOOKER

AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP CONTINUED The New Zealand amateur snooker championship was continued yesterday, when the second round was concluded. Early in the day the Wellington player, W. Harcourt, showed rare ability to dispose of J. Munro, who at times was not favoured by the running of the balls. The first session of the afternoon between Harcourt and Atley was the highlight of the tournament so far. At the conclusion of the fourth frame the games were 2-all, and at the end of the final frame the scores were even. The black ball was replaced on the table and was eventually potted by Harcourt amidst great excitement, giving him a double win for the day. L. Stout had to extend himself fully to beat J. Munro. In the concluding game Stout won decisively from Atley, who did not play nearly as well, and, like Har.court, Stout was a dual winner on the day. The results were:—W. Harcourt (W.) 3: 65. 73, 51, 68 beat J. Munro (C.) 1: 38, 37, 54, 23; W. Harcourt (W.) 3: 21. 75, 18, 58, 61 beat J. Atley (W.) 2 : 82, 20, 75, 49, 54; L. Stout (W.) 3 : 87. 39, 52, 52, 53 beat J. Munro (C.) 2 : 46, 76, 28, 55. 45; Stout (W.) 3 : 68. 49. 88 beat Atley (W.) 0: 43, 31, 23. Highest break: Stout 43. The draw today is:—lo.3o a.m., Harcourt (W.) v. Spencer (A.); 1.30 p.m., Stout v. Choat; 3.30 p.m., Harcourt (W.) v. Franks; 7.30 p.m., Stout (W.) v. Phillips (A.).
