ALLEGED FORGER ARRESTED
LONG INVESTIGATIONS BY POLICE (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY, September 16. Sydney detectives last night arrested a man whom they believe to be a forger known as “Mr One-by-One.” who, over the last two years, has issued more than 220 spurious £lO notes. He became known, as “Mr One-by-One” because of his habit of passing only one note at a time. 'rhe arrest was the result of months of intensive work by six detectives, who spent much of their time dressed in old clothes working up to 18 hours a day in the suburb of Glebe, where the man was arrested. Their investigations also took them to other States and to many country towns in New South- Wales. The arrested man, a 31-year-old labourer, was charged with having in his possession 41 forged £lO notes. The police believe that “Mr One-by-One ’ printed the notes from steel plates, which had been photo-engraved. then etched. They say he must have known more about modern photographic and note printing techniques than any other man in Australia. The last forged note detected was handed in to a Kempsey bank on Monday.
