FALSE PRETENCES CHARGES
TWO MEN SENTENCED AT REEFTON (From Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH, September 16. James Percival William Campbell, alias Jack Taylor, aged 37, a baker and weaver, was sentenced to three years’ reformative detention on a charge of false pretences when he appeared before Mr H. J. Thompson, S.M., in the Reefton Magistrate’s Court today. On other charges of false pretences and of obtaining credit by fraud he was convicted and discharged. He pleaded guilty to all charges. Vincent John Wright, aged 26, described as a steel-bender and formerly of Runanga, was sentenced to two years’ reformative detention on a charge of false pretences and convicted and discharged on two similar charges. He pleaded not guilty to two of the charges and guilty to one.
