BRITISH DEFICIT WITH E.P.U.
Big Increase Last Month
(Rec. 7 p.m.) PARIS, September 15. For the second month in succession, Britain had a large monthly deficit in the Eurpean Payments Union — 29,500,000 dollars (about £10,535,700) for August, according to figures released in Paris today. The British deficit was the union’s heaviest. France followed with a deficit of 22,000,000 dollars (nearly £8,000,000). Germany added another 12,600,000 dollars (about £4,499,000) to her overall surplus, which now stands at 633,900,000 dollars (about £226,390,000), the highest in the union.
In July, Britain’s deficit was 11,200,000 dollars (about £4,000,000). Britain’s deficit in the union is now 804,400,000 dollars (about £287,285,000).
