BRITISH GRAIN PRODUCTION
BONUS PAYMENTS TO BE MADE LONDON, September 15. British farmers who produce top quality grain are to be paid Government oonuses. This incentive plan, to start next year, was announced last night by the Ministries of Agriculture and Food. ‘ Instead of being paid Governmentguaranteed prices, farmers will be encouraged to produce the best quality and sell it in .the best markets at the best prices. The Government will fix a standard price for all grain. From returns by growers and merchants, it will assess the average price at which grain is sold. Where the average price is below the standard price, the Government will pay all farmers the national difference as a deficiency payment. This means that farmers who produce best quality crops and sell above the standard price will get the deficiency payments in the form of a bonus. Those who sell far below the standard price will find that the bonuses may not bring them up to the standard level.
