GANDHI’S SON TO GO TO GAOL
PASSIVE RESISTANCE IN SOUTH AFRICA
CAPE TOWN. September 15. Manilal Gandhi, the Indian journalist and son of Mahatma Gandhi, has elected to serve the 50 days’ gaol sentence imposed on him in February and would surrender to the South African police “within a few days,” his attorney (Mr H. S. Bloom) said today. Gandhi was found guilty of entering the Germiston African location in December last year in a “passive resistance” procession, and was fined £5O. He had lodged an appeal, which was to have been heard on November 2, but today Mr Bloom said the appeal had been withdrawn. Gandhi was one of eight, including seven Europeans, who led a procession of natives.
