STAMPS TO MARK TOUR

DESIGN CRITICISED (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, September 16. The two New Zealand postage stamps to commemorate the Royal tour ars “lacking in imagination and funds* mental good design,” in the opinion of the Director of the Auckland Art Gallery (Mr Eric Westbrook). A reporter had shown him enlarged photographs of the 3d and 4d stamps to be on sale on December 9, the former with a portrait of toe Queen and the latter with a portrait of the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh. “The portraits are not very lifelike.” he said: “It might riave been better to have stylised them, so they could be i»ed more as decorative motifs.”
