RIFLE BULLET HITS MOTOR-VAN
WOMAN’S HEAD MISSED BY INCHES (New Zealand Press Association) OAMARU, September 7. Mr and Mrs R. Coffey, of Oamaru, had an alarming experience on Sunday afternon as they were motoring near Buckleys hill. A bullet from a .22 calibre rifle pierced the driver’s side of their light motor-van and went out through the roof, missing Mrs Coffey’s head by a couple of inches. Mr and Mrs Coffey’s children were in the back of the van and as the bullet struck a slanting blow, entering the metal side about 18in from the back of the van, it must also have gone close to the children. The matter was reported to the police.
