ABBEY APPEAL FUND
N.Z. RESPONSE “COULD WELL BE BETTER”
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 25. New Zealand had subscribed nearly £5OOO toward the appeal for funds td preserve and maintain Westminster Abbey, said the Prime Minister (Mr Holland) today.
“That is good, but it could well be better,” said Mr Holland.
TTie appeal aimed at raising £1,000,000, but the latest advice overseas indicated that the present total was well behind that figure.
Mr Holland said the urgency for substantial additional funds for the Abbey’s controlling authorities had been well publicised. The closing date of the appeal was August 31. “Thus, there is still time for those who wish to help this cause to make their contributions,” he said.
