Mr J. Kernick, assistant district traffic manager (administration) for the Railways Department at Christchurch, retired yesterday after 40 years’ service with the department. Mr Kernick was met by his associates yesterday afternoon, when a presentation was made to him.
Mr B. O. Johanson, of Sydney, general manager of the Sanitarium Health Food Company, returned to Australia by Skymaster yesterday after a business visit to New Zealand. During his stay he visited the company’s three factories in New Zealand, including one recently built at Palmerston North. Mr J. A. Torrance, senior train running officer of the Railways Department at Greymouth for the last six years, has received notice of transfer and promotion to the position of transport officer at the district traffic manager’s office in Dunedin. Mr Torrance expects to leave to take up his new position early next month. His successor will be Mr G. H. Wilson, train running officer at Christchurch, who was formerly of Greymouth. Sub-Lieutenant Michael Muschamp, a son of the Rt. Rev. C. E. B. Muschamp, Bishop of Kalgoorlie, and a former vicar of St. Michael’s, Christchurch, arrived in Christchurch by Skymaster yesterday. Sub-Lieutenant Muschamp, who has recently attended the Royal Naval College at Dartmouth, England, served as a midshipman in Korean waters. He is to be stationed at Auckland. Mr S. N. Kinraid, stationmaster at Otira for the last‘four years, has received notice of his transfer and promotion to the position of senior stationmaster at Timaru. He will take up his new duties towards the end of September.
