OFFICIAL FORECASTS “The Press" Special Service WELLINGTON, August 20. The weather forecast for Canterbury issued at 9 pjn. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 27 hours following the time of issue, is:— Situation: a ridge of high pressure extends on to New Zealand from the Tasman Sea. Forecast: light winds, north-easterlies predominating near the coast; weather fair to cloudy, with rising day temperatures. Outlook: fair. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Light or - moderate variable winds; weather cloudy and cool, with rain at times. Outlook: rain likely. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER a frost of 9.9 degrees, the day in Christchurch yesterday was fine, with a light north-east wind, and a maximum temperature of 54.2 degrees. At midnight the sky was overcast, and a moderate westerly wind was blowing. The temperature was 42.6 degrees. The barometer, at 30.3 inches (1026.1 millibars), was rising unsteadily. Rainfall for 24 hours ended 1 a.m.: nil Meteorological observations taken at the Geophysical Survey. Christchurch, on Thursday, August 20.
