PATRIOTIC COUNCIL
The reappointing of Mr W. S. MacGibt on as deputy-chairman of the Canterbury Provincial Patriotic Council was opposed by Mr D. Barrett (Christchurch R.S.A.).
When his nomination was put to a meeting of the council, Mr MacGibbon (who was in the chair) remarked: “There is a vote ‘No.’ “Do you want it recorded?” Mr Barrett: Yes, Mr Chairman.
Mr J. W. Niven was reappointed treasurer and the standing committee was reappointed as follows: Messrs R. M. Macfarlane, M.P. (Mayor of Christchurch), W. L. Richards (Mayor of Timaru). Mac Gibbon, Niven, P. H. Morey (St. John-Red Cross), G. D. Hattaway (Christchurch R.S.A.), J. M. Little (Timaru R.S.A.), C. J. Goode (Home Servicemen’s Association), C. W. Tyler (Rangiora-North Canterbury), E. C. Bathurst (Ashburton-Mid-Canterbury), G. A. Harris (South Canterbury), P. H. Wood, and L. J. Collins, and Sir Ernest Andrews. The council decided to recommend to the National Patriotic Fund Board that a conference of representatives of welfare committees be held in Wellington to discuss uniformity of grants for welfare assistance.
