RECORD ADOPTIONS LAST YEAR

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 20. A record number of children were adopted last year. The report for 1952 on child welfare shows there were 1394 adoptions, 11 more than the previous record of 1383 in 1946. Adoptions, in age groups, were* under one year, 374 boys, 416 girls; one year to six years, 163 boys, 143 girls; and six years and over, 151 boys, 147 girls.

The report was tabled in the House of Representatives this afternoon.
