CORONATION EXPENSES

Sir, —The answer given to “A Workers’ Rep.” evaded the question rather adroitly. If the Prime Minister bore the cost, then Mr Holyoake would surely have said so quite plainly. Is it not the case that a Minister and his secretary both receive grants for a considerable sum to defray such expenses and are not the amounts published at some stage while the House is sitting? I feel sure “The Press” could give this information after a little searching of its Parliamentary records. Mr Macfarlane and Mr McCombs could no doubt enlighten us on this. —Yours, etc., STRAIGHT ANSWER PLEASE. June 29, 1953.

[This letter was referred to the Acting Prime Minister (Mr K. J. Holyoake), but no reply has been received. —Ed., “The Press.”]
