PACIFIC AIRLINE MERGER
MINISTER REPLIES TO MR URL WIN (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 6. No decisions had yet been made about any merger between Commonwealth airlines in the South Pacific, but if a combination were to take place the South Island, far from being by-passed, would benefit, because of the more flexible type of operation that would result from the use of land aircraft, said the Minister in charge of Civil Aviation (Mr T. L. Macdonald) today. He was replying to the president of the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association (Mr H. C. Urlwin), whose executive committee recently expressed fears that a merger would result in the Christchurch airport being bypassed.
