RENOVATIONS TO WHARF

PROGRESS MADE IN LYTTELTON

Progress on renovations to the steamer-express wharf at Lyttelton was reported by the engineer-in-chief (Mr J. A. Cashin) to the Lyttelton Harbour Board yesterday. The platform had been completely removed, he said. ' During July, 49 piles were driven, making a total of 72, of which 46 had been fitted. Pile cap beams and deck beams were being renewed where necessary. It was proposed to renew all piles and beams which appeared to have a life of less than 20 years. Railway tracks were being removed and replaced in their new positions by the Railways Department and some 2000 square feet of decking had been replaced around them.
