LOWER EGG PRICES
DROP OF 1/- A DOZEN ON MONDAY
Eggs will be Is a dozen cheaper in the Canterbury marketing area on Monday. The maximum retail prices authorised by the Price Tribunal will be 3s 3d for large hen eggs, 2s 9d for small, and 3s for mixed grade. For large and. small duck eggs the new prices will be 3s 3d and 3s. In the Westland marketing area large hen eggs will cost 3s 6d a dozen, small 3s Id. and mixed grade, 3s 6d. Large and small duck eggs will cost 3s 7d and 3s 4d respectively. In the Nelson. Blenheim and Picton district, where eggs are sold in several grades, the new retail prices will be 3s 7d for heavy grade, 3s 5d for standard, 3s 3d for medium, 2s 9d for pullet, and 3s Id for mixed.
The new prices are contained in a price order gazetted last evening. They are Id a dozen less than prices in the flush period last year. It is considered unlikely that prices will fall any lower this season.
