STOCK EXCHANGES WEEK CLOSES ON FIRM NOTE Several investments in Government securities on the Christchurch Stock Exchange yesterday confirmed recent stronger buying support. At the close of the market, there were further buyers for fully 20 issues, but no sellers appeared. Trading"in other stocks was light, but markets were generally firm at late rates. The demand for Commercial Bank rights still obtained, three parcels changing hands Id up at Is Bd, but the market closed weaker with buyers offering Is 6a —sellers 3d away. Buyers again predominated in all sections, and any price movements were mostly in favour of sellers. As from Monday, with the exception of Government stocks and local body debentures, which remain unaltered, stock exchange brokers’ charges to- investors will be increased over all by about 20 per cent. For very many years rates chargeable to clients have remained unaltered. The new rates compare favourably with those ruling in England and Australia, and have, brokers report, been largely brought about by increases m telephone, telegraphic, and postal charges, apart from the general rise in administrative costs.
