CHANGES IN HUNGARY
New Chief Of Police (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 10 p.m.) LONDON, July 21. Major-General Tibor Poecze has been appointed head of the Hungarian People’s Police, according to a Hungarian News Agency report received in London today. Since July, 1951, General Poecze has been Deputy-Minister of the Interior. The agency also announced the names of 14 other persons appointed to Government posts in the course of a Government reshuffle. • Major-General Laszlo Piros, former head of the Secret Police, becomes the First Vice-Minister of the Interior, the agency said. Reports from Vienna on July 1 said General Piros had been dropped from the Politbureau of the Hungarian Workers’ Party, after instructions had been received from Moscow by the then Hungarian Prime Minister, Mr Matyas Rakosi. Mr Rakosi was replaced as Prime Minister on July 4 by Mr Imre Nagy.
