DAVIS CUP
DENMARK BEATEN BY BELGIUM COPENHAGEN, July 20. Belgium gained a winning lead of 3 matches to 1 over Denmark in the European zone final of the Davis Cup today. Belgium led 2-1 at the end of yesterday’s play, and in the first of the remaining two singles today Jacques Brichant (Belgium) beat Toroen Ulrich (Denmark), 7-5. 5-7, 6-3, 6-3. Kurt Neilsen, the Wimbledon finalist won the final match for Denmark, beating Phillippe Washer, 8-6, 6-8, 6-2, 6-4.
Belgium will now meet India, the Eastern zone representatives, the match to be played by December 2. Offences by U.S, Servicemen.—Japan and the United States are expected to begin negotiations early next week for a new agreement permitting Japanese Courts to try American servicemen for civil offences committed outside their bases, Japanese officials said today. Hitherto, members of the American forces have been tried by American Courts for crimes anywhere in Japan. —Tokyo, July 21.
