The United States Department of Agriculture announced today that it would permit the importation of 1,180,0001 b of Cheddar cheese from New Zealand during the year to July 1, The department stated that it would accept licence applications for this amount of New Zealand Cheddar cheese from American importers until August 31. Trie import year would be split into three parts, the department said, with the initial import licences covering the period ending October 31, 1953, and the subsequent licence periods ending on February 28, 1954, and June 6, 1954.

The Department of Agriculture on July 1 announced that Cheddar cheese imports from all areas would be limited to 2,780,0001 b for the year ending July 1, next, but it did not state the individual countries’ quotas.
