WOMEN’S DIVISION OF FEDERATED FARMERS

Kalapoi.—Mrs J. Candy presided over a good attendance of members of the Kaiapoi Women’s Institute at its July meeting. Birthday sprays were presented. An interesting demonstration on machine sewing was given. Competitions resulted as follows:—small bloom: Mrs Tourell and Miss Murray (equal) 1, Mrs Clarke 3, Mrs Collister 4. Large bloom: Mrs C. H. Johnson 1, Mrs Tourell 2, Mrs Clarke 3. Small spike: Miss P. Pearce 1, Mrs Tourell 2, Mrs Clarke 3. Large spike: Mrs Collister 1, Mrs P. Pearce 2, Mrs Clarke and Mrs Tdurell (equal) 3. Eggless sponge: Mrs C. H. Johnson. Toffee: Mrs C. H. Johnson 1, Mrs Tourell 2, Mrs Clarke 3. Woollen bed jacket: Mrs C. H. Johnson 1, Mrs Tourell 2, Miss P. Pearce 3. Leithfield—Balcairn.—Mrs F. Bryant presided at the monthly meeting of the Leithfield-Balcairn branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. It was agreed to hold the annual church parade at St. John’s Church, Balcairn. Members planned to plant two English trees, one at the Leithfield School and one in the Balcairn School grounds to commemorate the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth. A demonstration on the making and changing of an occupied bed, also a talk on first-aid in the home, was given by Mrs R. Bowman, of the Rangiora branch of 9t. John Ambulance Association. Competition results were:—Best bloom: Mrs W. l, Mrs Robertson 2. Mrs Mbyna 3. Small bloom: Mrs L. Lilley 1, Mrs Fleming 2, Mrs Frost 3. Best carrot: Mrs Lilley 1. Mrs Fleming 2, Mrs Gray 3. Redcliffs.—A report on the July meeting of the executive was given by Mrs Shaw at the monthly meeting of the Redcliffs branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. Arrangements were made for the annual birthday party to be held in September. Competition results were as follows:—Jar of marmalade: Mrs Williams 1, Miss Weastall, Mrs Hlndle. and Mrs Knutson (equal) 3. Apron made from pieces: Mrs Hindle 1, Mrs Rothwell 2. Mrs Turner 3. Parsnip: Mrs Barker 1. Mrs Haste 2, Mrs Turner 3. Winter decoration: Mrs Knutson 1, Mrs Carter 2, Mrs Ebert and Mrs Foster (equal) 3. Mrs V Newport presided.
