KAREN REBELS IN BURMA

_ RANGOON, July 11. The Burmese Army said today that captured documents showed that the Karen rebels, who have been fighting for an independent state within the Burmese Union since 1948, have signed an agreement accepting Communist leadership.

Observers believe the reported alliance may lead to intensified rebel activity during the prevailing monsoons which will hinder the movement of government troops. It is thought that the Karens, who have been facing concentrated government assaults for the last six months, may have accepted Communist help because they could not fight on alone.
