OPEN LETTER L.R.C. QUESTION TO ATTORNEY-GENERAL The Ashburton Labour Representation Committee has addressed the following open letter to the AttorneyGeneral: Sir,—ln view of the announcement that you made recently concerning the use of Reserve Bank credit for the purpose of assisting the financing of public works this year, my committee would be pleased to receive an answer to the following question: If all members of the National Party subscribed—as they did—to the statement made by the Prime Minister on February 1, 1930, when he violently denounced the issuing of Reserve Bank credit, and said “how did the country get into this unsatisfactory state at a time of full employment and record prices for our primary products? The answer is to be found in soaring Government expenditure.” Would you please state whether you have adopted such a complete change of attitude—(a) because your support of such a statement was merely political expediency designed to ensure that at any cost a National Government was in power; or because (b) after dispassionate consideration you now consider that the very methods the Prime Minister and your party then and since have openly condemned are NOT, in fact, contrary to sound practice? Yours Faithfully, Ashburton Labour Representation Committee. —Advt
