MUSTANG’S ATTEMPT POSTPONED

FLIGHT NOW PLANNED FOR FRIDAY

The scheduled attempt on the Sydney-Auckland air record by Flight Lieutenant J. L. Whiteman, of Australia. did not take place today. No official advice as to why the flight was postponed was available tonight. Flight Lieutenant Whiteman, who will compete in .the London-Christ-church air race in October, hoped to pilot a Mustang fighter equipped with

let engines across the „Tasman in 3£ hours. The record for the 1280-miles trip—--3 hours 43 minutes—was set by a Pan American Airways Clipper last year. According to advice received in Christchurch last evening, Flight Lieutenant Whiteman will make the flight next Friday.
