CONVERSION OF MOTOR-CYCLE
TEMUKA MAN SENTENCED TO SIX MONTHS’ GAOL (From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU, July 9. Frank Reihana, aged 19, a labourer, of Temuka, appeared before Mr E. A. Lee, S.M., in the Timaru Magistrate’s Court this morning for sentence on a charge of unlawfully converting a motor-cycle valued at £B5, the property of Clarence Leslie Day, at Timaru on May 29. Reihana, who appeared on remand, was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment with hard labour. He had previously pleaded guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate said that everything possible had been done for Reihana. The child welfare officers had tried to help him and he had had training in discipline at a Borstal institution. He had been released on probation to allow him another chance, yet while he was still on probation he had committed a further offence similar in nature to others for which he had previously appeared before the Court.
