LEAGUE OF MOTHERS
BRANCH FORMED AT MAIREHAU The inaugural meeting of the Mairehau branch of the League of Mothers was held in the Mairehau Hall, Briggs road on Thursday. The provinciil president (Mrs W. Grant) welcomed the Mayoress (Mrs R. M. Macfarlane), intending members, and representa--110111 neighbouring branches. Mrs Macfarlane congratulated the women of the district on the formation of the branch, and emphasised the importance of the creche, which leaves young mothers free to enjoy the meeting. Mrs Grant outlined the history of the league and its aims. The provincial secretary (Mrs J Davidson) and Mrs N. Clapp also spoke. Mrs W, J. Walter thanked members of the executive for their assistance in forming the branch. The provincial treasurer and creche convener (Mrs C. A. Noble) and helpers cared for 30 children in the creche. Songs were sung by Mrs P. Brook, accompanied by Mrs McDonald, and by the St. Albans branch choir under the leadership of Mrs Vinnell. Officers were elected as follows: acting-president, Mrs D. G. McFadden; vice-president, Mrs W. J. Walter; secretary, Mrs E. C. Law; treasurer, Mrs J. T. Michaelis; magazine secretary, Mrs F. Brierley; committee, Mesdames E. Baker, W. H. Gregory, P. Brook, and B. R. Davison.
