FINANCIAL POST IN LONDON

MR L. G. DURBIN’S APPOINTMENT

Mr L. G. Durbin, of Wellington, who has been an officer in the Treasury Department, will leave today for London on the Ruahine to take up the post of financial secretary in the office of the New Zealand Hitgh Commissioner (Sir Frederick Doiage).

Mr Durbin graduated in commerce ind economics at Auckland and Vic-

toria University Colleges, and is a member of the New Zealand Society of Accountants. He joined the Government Life Insurance Department at Auckland in 1934, and transferred to the Treasury Department at Wellington in 1940. He joined the investigation and research division of the department in 1946, and has been engaged on such questions as the North Island Main Trunk railway electrification, railway works in the Auckland province, hydro-electric projects, and preliminary work on the Murupara scheme. He was also a member of an inter-departmental committee studying irrigation development in Canterbury.

In his new post Mr Durbin will be engaged in arranging the £10.000,000 loan for the Murupara scheme. Mr D. F. Anderson, of Wellington, who has been financial secretary in London for the last four years, will return to New Zealand towards the end of October.
