PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION
ASSOCIATION NOT TO BE REPRESENTED GOVERNMENT AFFIRMS DECISION (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 24. The Government has decided to confirm Mr G. T. Bolt in the senior' position on the Public Service Commission, and it has resolved not to depart from its practice of having no nom-
inee of the Public Service Association on the commission. This was announced today by the Acting-Prime Minister (Mr K. J. Holyoake). Mr Holyoake said that the Cabinet committee dealing with the question of the commission had not yet reached a decision on the number to be appointed to it. That was still under consideration, he said. “The Cabinet committee had a number of discussions with the Public Service Association and departmental officers on the whole question of the Public Service Commission before it reached its decisions,” said Mr Holyoake.
The Government’s announcement can be taken to mean that Mr Bolt will assume the chairmanship should additional members be appointed, according to an official source tonight. Mr Bolt, who was appointed a commissioner in 1947, has been the commission’s only member since Mr R. M. Campbell, the chairman, recently .took up an overseas.position.
