EXHIBITS AT ROYAL A. AND P. SHOWS
PROPOSAL FOR RAISING OF STANDARD (New Zealand Press Association/ WELLINGTON, June 24. A proposal that would ensure that only high-quality stock was exhibited at royal agricultural and pastoral shows was warmly supported by the Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand at its annual meeting today. On the motion of Mr W. Luxton, of Hamilton, the society approved a suggestion that animals proposed for exhibition at a royal show should first be certified by. an inspector of the appropriate breed society as being up to the necessary standard. Speakers representing a number of breed societies said they were sure their organisations would support the proposal. There were too many inferior animals at present being exhibited at royal shows. Mr Luxton’s idea was better, in their view, than that previously put forward that only prize-winners should be allowed to compete at royal show’s. Ths society decided to put the plan officially before the breed societies before taking any action.
