STOCK EXCHANGES - MARKETS ACTIVE AND STRONG Markets were active on the Christchurch J Stock Exchange yesterday. A large volume 1 of business was transacted in a wide range ‘ of stocks, and gains considerably out- . weighed the few modest losses recorded. ’ The bulk of the business was in bank ‘ shares, industrials, and chain stores. Quotations and prices were generally in sellers’ favour. Dalgetys rights were traded for the first time, a large parcel changing hands at < 3d, with more on offer at the same price, , but buyers were prepared to carry on 1 only at the reduced figure of 2d. Coles, which have been quiet of late, sold 2d up at 14s 2d, and the market finished with further buyers at 14s Id, sellers 2d away. Hay’s confirmed recent stronger quotations by selling 3s up at 70s. Bank of New South Wales sold 5s up at £32, with further buyers at the same figure, but sellers hung on for £32 ss. 1 Nationals of Australasia 20s paid were traded 9d up at 275, and A.N.Z. Bank lost 9d in a sale at 32s 3d. Turnbull and Jones were fractionally weaker. Golds- J brough Mort rights were 3d dearer at < 6s, with more buyers at 5s 9d, and the company’s shares gained 9d in a sale at 28s. < Kaiapoi Woollens returned to the sales 1 list to be traded, in line with recent < stronger quotations, 2s up at 22s 9d, with further' buyers at the same price, but sellers were 9d away. Felt and Textiles (Australia) were unchanged at 22s 6d, ( with more on offer at 22s 9d. j There was a spate of trading in Colonial Sugars, no fewer than five parcels - changing hands 2s 6d up at £36 7s 6d, with buyers prepared to carry on at £36 ss—no sellers. After hanging fire for some time on sellers’ quotations, Frozen Products brought off two sales at 8s 6d—a drop of 6d. Other business included fairly heavy trading in. Woolworths, Ltd., at the fractionally reduced price of 14s Id, with further buyers at 14s—sellers Id away.
