KAIKOURA COUNTY LIBRARY

REORGANISATION OF SERVICE

The reorganisation of the library service at Kaikoura. which had recently been taken over by the Kaikoura County Council, had been carried out during the month with the assistance of a member of the staff of the National Library Service, stated the county librarian (Mr H. F. Crow) in a report made to the council. Nearly 1000 books on loan from the National Service had been installed. The women of St. Paul’s Library, which had run the library voluntarily over a long period before the council had taken over, had assisted in the sorting of the old books. Many had been sold, said Mr Crow. A total of 200 books, including 50 new ones, had been added during the month. The membership of 119 comprised 55 who had re-enrolled when the county had taken over, and 64 new members. Since the reorganisation of the library the number of nooks issued had increased by 300 per cent, compared with previous figures, said Mr Crow. A total of 747 books (431 rental and 316 from the •free section) had been issued for the period.
