WOMEN’S DIVISION OF FEDERATED FARMERS
Ouruhla.—The monthly meeting of the Ouruhia branch of the women’s Division of Federated Farmers was well attended. Mrs Brown .presided. Competitions* resulted as follows:—large bloom: Mrs Stead f, Mrs Brown 2. Mrs Robinson 3. Small bloom: Mrs N. L. Ashby 1, Mrs Brown 2, Miss Dunlop 3. Spike: Mrs W. Johnstone 1. Miss Dunlop 2, Mesdames Marsh and Wilkinson (equal) 3. Cluster: Mrs Stead 1, Miss Dunlop 2, Mrs N. L- Ashby 3. Cooking: Mrs Stead 1, Mrs L. Johnston 2, Mesdames Stead and Marsh (equal) 3. Sewing: Mrs Townley 1, Mrs L. Johnston 2, Mrs. Robinson 3. The monthly competitive cup was won by Mrs Stead. The hostesses were Mesdames Townley and Robinson.
Cooper’s Creek.—Mrs McGrath presided at the June meeting of the Cooper’s Creek branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. Miss E. Mackintosh gave a demonstration on pastry making. Competition results were as follows:—three kisses: Mrs Bowman 1, .Mrs McGrfith 2. Miss Bonisch 3. Parsnip: Miss Bonisch 1, Mrs Bowman 2, Mrs Lilley 3. Large bloom: Mrs Bowman 1, Mrs McGrath 2, Mrs Lilley 3. Small bloom: Mrs McGrath 1, Miss Bonisch 2, ■ Mrs Taylor 3. Mrs Campbell was hostess.
Waimairi-PapanuL—Mrs S. F. Marshall presided at the monthly meeting of the Waimairi-Papanui Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. One new member (Mrs Overend) was welcomed. Mrs Lazarus gave a demonstration .on flower making. Competitions were won by Mesdames Smith, McLachlan, and G. Nicholls, and Miss Killner.
Okuku.—Mrs T. Johnstone presided at the June meeting of the Okuku branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. Mrs Johnstone gave a.report on the school for officers held in Rangiora. Mrs Johnstone introduced the division’s song, which members sang accompanied by Miss Dodge at the piano. Competitions resulted:—large bloom: Mrs P. Lundy 1. Mrs Evison 2, Mrs G. Croft 3. Small bloom : Mrs Lundy 1, Mrs Evison 2, Mrs G. Croft 3. Butter: Mrs Johnstone 1. Jam: Mrs Evison 1, Mrs Croft 2, Mrs Lundy 3. The hostesses were .Mrs T. Davis, Mrs G. Croft, and Mrs G. Summerfield.. • Tai Tapu.—Menwers of the Tai Tapu branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers held an afternoon meeting at the home of Mrs Stackwood, of St. Albans. Mrs Stackwood was thanked for her kind invitation and presented with flowers. Sympathy was expressed with the Fiecken family in their recent bereavement. Competitions were won by Mesdames Payne and Irwin. A social halfhour was also held.
Stewart’s Gully.—The June meeting of the Stewart’s Gully branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers was held in the hall, Mrs Hop well presiding. Four members were appointed to attend the Harewood branch birthday party. A report was given on the Canterbury provincial executive’s annual meeting. Mrs Davies and Mrs Smith, sen., were appointed sick visitors to members in Christch.urch hospitals. Mrs Hills, of Kaiapoi, gave a talk on her tour of America, England, and. the Continent, Two new members were welcomed. Competitions resulted:—prettiest necklace: Mrs McLaughlin 1, Mrs Dyer 2. Girdle scones: Mrs N. V. Smith 1, Mrs McLaughlin 2. Handkerchief made from salt bag: Mrs Jennings 1, Mrs Dyer 2. Small bloom: Mrs Kidd 1, Mrs Fuller 2. Large bloom: Mrs Perkinson 1, Mrs Ledsham 2. Spike or cluster: Mrs Dyer 1, Mrs Rowberry 2. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs R. Smith, jun., and Mrs Foster.
Amurl.—Mrs M. Bethell presided at the May meeting of the Amur! branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. A motion of sympathy was passed with Mrs H. Croft in the death of her fathei'. The guest speaker was Miss Merton, who gave an interesting talk on the Food and Agricultural Organisations of the United Nations.
Riccarton.—Members of the Riccarton branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers met at the home of Mrs Coy for their monthly meeting. Mrs Berryman presided. A report on the annual meeting of the executive was presented. Competition results were:—large bloom: Mrs Abbott 1, Mrs Kirkwood 2, Mrs Kemp 3. Small bloom: Mrs Smee 1, Mrs Kemp 2, Mrs Ambridge 3. Leithfield-Balcairn. —Eight new members were welcomed by the president (Mrs F. Bryant) at the monthly meeting of the Leithfield-Balcairn Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. Mrs Bryant read the report of a meeting of the recentlyformed Canterbury North executive in Rangiora. Demonstrations of designing and the cutting-out of dressmaking patterns was given by Mrs T. Fleming. Competitions resulted:—large bloom: Mrs Moore 1, Mrs L. Lilly 2, Mrs Smith 3. Small bloom: Mrs Moore 1, Mrs W. Frost 2, Mrs Fleming 3. Best ornament: Mrs Wickstead 1. Motukarara.—The monthly meeting of the Motukarara Women’s Division was well attended. Mrs H. M. Stephens presided. During the afternoon an exchange table was conducted. An amusing competition was also held, and was won by Mrs A. Miller. Competitions resulted;— mixed container of flowers: Mrs A. Gebbie 1, Mrs A. Miller 2, Mrs B. Woods 3. Oxford.—Mrs W. J. Skurr presided at the monthly meeting of the Oxford branch of the Women’s Divsiion of Federated Farmers. The president reported on the formation of tne new Canterbury North provincial' executive at Rangiora. The Rev. Basil Hilder gave an address on his recent visits to Germany and Italy. Avonhead.—Mrs H. G. Riches presided at the monthly meeting of the Avonhead branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers, and welcomed two new members, Mrs Marks and Mrs Johnson A motion of sympathy was passed with Mrs Hyslop in her recent bereavement. A bring and buy realised the sum of 16s. Competitions resultedposy bowl: Mrs Best 1, Mrs Miller 2, Mrs MacPherson 3. Crocheted gloves: Mrs Graham 1, Mrs Miller 2, Mrs Kennedy 3. Three chrysanthemums: Mrs Warren 1, Mrs Johnson 2, Mrs Bigg 3. Wedge of pumpkin: Mrs Johnson 1, Mrs Royds 2, Mrs Bigg 3. Three varieties of jam: Mrs Royds 1, Miss Merrin 2, Mrs Kennedy 3.
•Hurunul Provincial Executive.—The annual meeting of the Hurunui provincial executive of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers was held at Hanmer Springs. Mrs M. Bethell presided. Delegates were present from all branches of the executive. They reported increased membership and well attended meetings. The division’s community chest had been well supported during the year. Donations were also sent to Stratheona and the Melrose Rest Home. Thanks were expressed to Mrs Ambridge, of the Canterbury executive, for her help in supplying 11 housekeepers to urgent cases during the year. The Crippled Children Society and Save the Children fund were supported, as also were the CORSO appeal and the Nurse Maude Association. Parcels were sent to Britain. The patients of ijie Queen Mary Hospital were enter-, tained. Through the co-ordinating com-' mitfee of Country Women’s Institutes and the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers, classes had been organised in dressmaking and floral art. ’Mrs Sprosen (Hawarden), who has completed 21 years as president of her branch, was recommended to become a Coronation Dominion life member. Mrs H. V. Murray (ScargillMotunau). was elected a life member of the Hurunul executive. After, the election of officers, afternoon tea was served by members of the Hanmer Springs branch. Southbrook-Flaxton.—Mrs D. Matheson presided over the May meeting of the Southbrook-Flaxton. branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. Sympathy was expressed with Mesdames L. D. J. Smith and Withell in their recent bereavements. Mrs J. J. Hughey was appointed a voting delegate at the conference to be held in Auckland next month. A demonstration of icing cakes was given by Mrs Smith (Fernside). Competitions resulted as follows:—large bloom: Mrs E. F. Allen 1, Mrs C. Atkinson 2, Mrs C. M. Archer 3. Small bloom: Mrs A. Henderson 1, Mrs L. L. Smith 2, Mrs C. Kolkman 3. Spike: Mrs Henderson 1, Mrs Scoltock 2, Mrs Allen 3. Cluster: Mrs Kolkman 1, Mrs R. Dunlop 2, Mrs Henderson 3.
