AWARD TO BRITISH REGIMENT
(Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, June 10. A piece of puriri which was part of the original timber of the pa at Ruapekapeka, suitably decorated, was presented to the Northamptonshire Regiment by Major W. E. Crawford, of Whangarei, when he was the guest of honour at the regiment’s annual dinner at the United Service Club. Major Crawford, who is in London with the New Zealand Coronation Contingent, is a member of the Northland Regiment, which is affiliated to the English regiment, and on whose behalf he made the presentation. The Northamptonshire Regiment was formerly the 58th Regiment, which took a leading part in the fighting at the pa. The gift was received by MajorGeneral G. S. R. Robinson, Colonel of the Northamptonshires, who expressed deep appreciation.
