REPERTORY SOCIETY PRODUCER
STATEMENT ISSUED BY COMMITTEE “Arising out of letters in the correspondence column of ‘The Press,’ the committee of the Canterbury Repertory Society wishes it to be understood that the appointment of a new producer is in no way an indication that the society has not appreciated the high standard achieved by Mr Robert Young,” says the committee in a statement issued yesterday. “On the contrary, the committee, having engaged Mr Young for an initial period of three years, offered him an extensiqn of his contract for a further two years as from March, 1953, the expiry date of his original cbntract. “This offer was made to Mr Young in July of last year. Unfortunately he was unable to accept this further engagement but offered to stay with the society until the end of 1953. The committee was greatly pleased to accept Mr Young’s offer, being fully aware and appreciative of the standard set and achieved by Mr Young. Knowing, however, that he would be leaving New Zealand at the end of this year the committee naturally set about finding a successor. It is their hope that the new appointee will prove as great an asset to the society as has the present producer.”
