TEMPORARY BERTH FOR HINEMOA
CARS NOT ALLOWED TO CROSS RAILWAY LINE The Hinemoa was berthed yesterday at No. 3 West, the berth which the steamer-express will occupy for some months while repairs and extensions are being made to No. 2 wharf. Therewas no difficulty in berthing. Two red lamps on the ground at the railway crossing warned motorists that they were not permitted to approach the waterfront, a warning that was backed by the presence of railway and harbour officials. Cars had to be parked near the railway station. Although most motorists recognised that they could not approach No. 3 wharf because of the steamer train standing there, some were critical. One complained that his party from the Hinemoa had five large suit-cases which had to be carried from r the steamer to the railway station. Another pointed to the large expanse of unoccupied ground by No. 2 wharf, and said it could accommodate dozens of cars. On this site provision was made for the parking of three taxis only.
