JAPAN MAY CUT WOOL BUYING

SHORTAGE OF STERLING (Rec. 8 p.m.) SYDNEY. June 11. Japan has warned Australia that she almost certainly will have to cut her purchases of wool drastically unless she can earn more sterling. TJie Canberra correspondent of the Sydney “Daily Telegraph” says the Federal Government is disturbed because reduced Japanese buying would weaken the wool market and cut down Australia’s export earnings. To avoid this, the Government is considering Japan’s request to ease Australian import restrictions to enable Japan to earn more sterling. The Japanese Embassy in Canberra revealed that the Japanese Government had given, the warning and made the request in a diplomatic Note.
