Mr G. H. Wood, who was recently appointed a director of the State Advances Corporation, was congratulated on his appointment by members of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce last evening.
Mr T. J. Thompson, general manager of Messrs G. McClatchie and Company, Ltd., will retire on June 30 after 43 years’ service with the company. Mr G. G. Mitchell, at present secretary of the company, has been appointed to succeed Mr , Thompson as general manager.’
Mr D. R. Barwick, of Kaikoura, was admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court yesterday by Mr Justice Northcroft on the motion of Mr E. P. Wills.
Dr. G. C. Staniland, of Christchurch, will leave for England today for postgraduate study. Messrs S. J. Preston and D. M. Pettigrew have been reappointed trustees of the Hokitika Savings Bank. —(P.A.) Adjutant G. H. Pratt, of the Salvation Army, who retired recently after 19 years’ service, visited Sunnyside Mental Hospital every Saturday morning during that time, distributing comforts to returned servicemen patients. On his last visit Adjutant Pratt was presented with a fountain pen by the returned servicemen.
