ASSEMBLY IN PARK AT RANGIORA

Residents of Rangiora and district expressed their loyalty to the Throne and interest in the Coronation when a big crowd assembled in Victoria Park yesterday morning. Addresses were given by Mr W. H. Gillespie. M;P._ Mr C. W. Tyler (Mayor of Rangiora), Mr F. A. McIntosh (chairman of the Rangiora County Council), Mr C. M. Harman (Eyre County Council representative), and Mr G. Harper (Ashley County Council representative). Local clergymen took part in the service, and the music was played by the Rangiora Brass Band. There was a military parade, commanded by Major R. Naim. Members of the Rangiora Returned Services’ Association also paraded. .The North Canterbury Highland Pipe Band headed the parade, which marched to the park, wh»re it was inspected by Brigadier E. A. McPhail, officer commanding the 3rd Infantry Brigade. Brigadier McPhail later took the salute.

At the end of the ceremony the Mayor called for three cheers for the Queen, and these were given with enthusiasm. . A scarlet oak tree was planted in the park later by the Mayor.
