DAMAGES CLAIM AT HAMILTON
ACTION AGAINST BROTHERS £BO AWARDED BY JURY (New Zealand Press Association) HAMILTON, May 27. After a retirement of nearly three hours a jury awarded Kenneth Stratton Weeber, a carpenter, of Auckland, £5O general damages and £3O special damages in the Supreme Court tonight. Weeber claimed £lOOO general damages and special damages from K Thoma? Melting and Joseph Melting, alleging fate imprisonment and assault. The ease opened on Monday before Mr Justice Hutchison. Mr R. M. Annan appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr A L Hassall iat the two defendants. His Honour in his summing-up said that if the plaintiff Was detained by the defendants in and about the motorcar, that would be unlawful imprisonment. There could be no doubt of the assault or the false imprisonment if the pkintiff’s story was believed. These we®e both serious offences. No man should take the law into his own ' bands.
