OLDEST RESIDENT OF AKAROA

MISS E. PARSONS HAS 98TH BIRTHDAY

Akaroa’s oldest resident, Miss Elizabeth Parsons, celebrated her ninetyeighth birthday recently. A verv active old lady, she still chops her firewood and does other household tasks. She often visits concerts and other gatherings. Her parents were early arrivals at Lyttelton. They were married there in the early 1850’s, and Miss Parsons was brought to Akaroa on her father’s back over the old Pigeon Bay track. Until recently, she was an active philanthropic worker, and during world War I she spent much of her time making comforts for the troops and helping the Red Cross.
