POLICE INSPECTOR’S CAR RETURNED

Inspector J. J. Kearns, officer in charge of the Invercargill police district, whose motor-car was taken from outside the M.E.D. building in Christchurch on Tuesday night, had it returned to him yesterday by a worried motorist.

The latter had parked a rental car. of a similar model to that owned by Inspector Kearns, also outside the M.E.D. building, and took the wrong car by mistake. His key fitted Inspector Kearns’s car, and it was not until reached his home and looked in the car for articles he had left in his own vehicle that he realised it was not the car he had hired. He drove to the Central Police Station early yesterday morning and explained what had occurred. ’
