LAUNCH DRIVEN ON KAIKOURA REEF
(From Our Own Reporter) KAIKOURA, May 27. A 25-foot fishing launch, the Pakeha, broke its mooring near the new wharf at Kaikoura in a strong north-east wind, and drifted about a quarter of a mile to a reef near Camel rock, at the south-east end of Ingles Bay, Kaikoura, about 11 a.m. today. When the alarm was given, the owner, Mr J. Reardon, and Mr A, Colville, set out in rough seas in a dinghy. By the time they had boarded the launch, however, it had struck the reef
Mr Colville jumped overboard and swam ashore, a distance of about 60 yards, with a line to which a rope was later attached. With the help of a bulldozer, the launch was dragged on to the beach and later up on to the foreshore.
