MAN’S DEATH AFTER LEG INJURY

A man who suffered an injury to the calf of one of his legs, believed to have been caused by an accident with a power mower he was using, died in the Christchurch Public Hospital early last evening. He was:

Fulbert Cave Archer, single, aged 62, of Weka Pass, Waikari. Mr Archer was treated by a doctor at Waikari and brought to Christchurch by a St. John ambulance. He was then taken to the operating theatre, where he was found to be dead. An inquest will be opened this morning for identification purposes. Fatal injuries were suffered by a passenger in a car driven by her husband when it ran off the highway at the top of the Whangaehu Hill and struck a tree this afternoon. She was: Dorothy Alice Ashley, aged 24, with four young children, of Te Puke, wife of F. T. Ashley. Mr and Mrs Ashley were returning to Marton from Wanganui. ELDERLY MAN DIES IN FIRE (New Ze'-’-'nd Press Association) GORE, May 26. An elderly man died in a fire which destroyed a small cottage at Riversdale last night. He was: Mr F, Thomson, who worked in the district as a carpenter. About 7 p.m. neighbours noticed flames coming from the cottage. The heat made it impossible for them to enter the building. A bucket brigade was formed, directed by Constable A. Allen, of Riversdale. This enabled Constable Allen to dash inside the cottage and pull the body out before the building collapsed. WOMAN INJURED IN FALL FROM POWER-CYCLE Miss Eileen King, of 38 Sails street, suffered head injuries yesterday morning when she fell from a power-cycle at the corner of Papanui road and Leinster road. She was admitted' to the Christchurch Public Hospital, where her condition was later reported as satisfactory.
