TRAVEL CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING
The Canterbury Travel Club, which in recent years has sent a considerable quantity of meat to Britain, will discontinue raising money for this purpose. This was decided at the annual meeting of the club yesterday. Members agreed to continue to contribute to a fund which will be used for charitable purposes. The executive committee was given power to transfer money in the Meat for Britain Fund to the new project. The president (Sir Joseph Ward) congratulated the club on its various spheres of work, and thanked those who had helped to maintain the high standard of the programmes of entertainment. After a discussion on ways to meet the deficit on last year's operations, members agreed that the matter should be referred to the incoming executive committee, with a recommendation that more members on the waiting list of the club should be admitted Jf conditions were possible. A proposal to form a junior branch of the club was abandoned. Officers were elected as follows: patron, Sir R. Heaton Rhodes; vicepatron, the Mayor (Mr R. M. Macfarlane. M.P.); president, Sir Joseph Ward; executive committee, Mesdames R. T. Tosswill, C. Shaw, John Stewart, and L. L. Benzie (honorary organiser), H. Wyatt (honorary treasurer), and N. Gard’ner (secretary), Miss M. Enright, Messrs W. A. Erasmuson, J. Wyn Irwin, J. Cuddon and Sedley Wells.
