BRITISH POLICY IN SUDAN

(Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON, May 20. Lord Reading, Joint Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs, said today that the British Government did not intend to allow events in Egypt to prevent the Sudan from obtaining selfgovernment and self-determination. Lord Vansittart had asked in the House of Lords what would be the effect on the recently concluded Anglo-Egyptian Treaty concerning the Sudan of “warlike acts by Egypt against the British Government. Lord Reading was cheered when he replied: “The British Government do not intend to allow any events which may occur in Egypt to prevent the obtaining of self-government and selfdetermination by the Sudanese.
