CENTRAL MILK COUNCIL

REPLY TO CONSUMERS’ STATEMENT

“Would-it not be possible that the arguments 1 Mr' Watson puts forward on behalf of the Milk Consumers’ Protection Association are as incorrect and misleading as his statement in ‘The Press’?” said Mr C. J. McFadden, South Island member of the Central Milk Council, commenting yesterday on a statement made by Mr G. J. Watson, secretary of the association, and published in' “The Press.” “I would like to correct Mr Watson’s statement,” Mr McFadden said. “The consumers are represented on the Central Milk Council by Mr W. B. Tennent, M.P., elected to represent PaJmerston North by public vote, and appointed by the Government as independent chairman of the council; by Mr W. J. Rogers, Mayor of Wanganui, elected by the New Zealand Municipal Association, and by Dr. Muriel Bell, appointed by the Government to represent women and children. “Mr Rogers does not represent treatment stations and ‘another financial interest,’ as Mr Watson states,” said Mr McFadden. “The Central Milk Council is carrying out the recommendations of the Milk Commission, a consumer-appointed body, the personnel of which were Messrs William R. Tuck, A. H. Ward and G. W. DeU. These men had no financial interest in the town milk industry.”
