MOUSE AT COMING OUT BALL
DEBUTANTES UPSET (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright)
LONDON, May 13. A white mouse washing its face sat on top of a debutante’s head as she curtsied before the Duchess of Gloucester at Queen Charlotte’s birthday ball, the traditional coming out party for all debutantes in London’s West End last night. . Caroline Combe, an 18-year-old debutante, took the mouse to the ball in a box “to liven things up.” She did. The debutantes forgot their party manners and screamed as the mouse scuttled across the ballroom. Then Miss Lillian Eddy, from the Argentine, picked It up and put It in the bow of her dress. It nestled there until Miss Eddy went to make her curtsey to the Duchess. Then it climbed on to her head. “He obviously did not know what he was expected to do,” Miss Eddy said. Miss Eddy’s aunt, Mrs Alexander Eddy, said; “My niece is quite unafraid of animals.”
