TRAINING OF MALE NURSES
PROPOSALS FOR RAISING STANDARD (Now Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 14. Proposals for raising the standard of training of male nurses had been submitted to the Nurses' and Midwives' Board, and its decisions would be known soon, said a report before the Society of Registered Male Nurses of New Zealand at its annual conference today. It was hoped, it added, that more advanced training would greatly enhance the value of the male nurse service. The establishment of a professional male nursing service had the approval of the female nursing profession, the medical profession, the Hospital Boards* Association, and the Department of Health, said Mr C. Irwin, general secretary of the society. There were now about 80 male nurses attached to civilian hospitals throughout New Zealand, and of these 71 were members of. the society. More than 30 more were training.
