Indirect Taxation.—A Japanese in-come-tax assessor who was arrested and charged with taking 7,000.000 yen (about £7000) in bribes told the police today: “I am unlike those who spend their money on homes and clothes. Mine all went on wine and women, so I spent a big part of it On entertainment tax, and it got into the State treasury anyway.”—Tokyo, May 12.
